Breezy Raga

A breeze like sound
a humming I hear,
turns elaborate
melodious and divine.

Flows mellifluous,
hear no single false note
seamless it evolves
goes up to the brink.

Stays there for awhile,
balancing in a way
comes down patiently
ends in the bass.

I guess the raga,
Kamboji in full bloom
melts the heart
elevates the soul.

Does breeze blow
singing the raga?
Is it my obsession.
I am unable to distinguish

A Penalty

In a haste,
I open my store
take the provisions,
slam the door
lock it in a hurry,
run to the kitchen.

The milk is rising
near to boil over
I race to switch
off the stove, sit
cross legged with “aruvalmanai”
the Indian cutting equipment,

Start to cut the vegetables.
onions, spinach and garlic.
My eyes turn watery
fingers start to burn,
while I get ready for
preparing lunch.

I forget to take rice
go back to the store.
The door does not open,
seems grim, I manipulate t
he lock poses adamant,
I call the carpenter.

The mulish door stays firm.
He bangs the lock,
drives the spanner
through the hole,
no way, the lock poses tough.
He deliberates for a time.

Returns to work
with a hammer.
Finally releases the lock
by breaking the head.
The lock becomes useless.
He fixes a new lock.

What a tedium
and expenditure
I sigh!. Well, a full
one thousand and sixty
rupees gone, being
the payment for
my folly.

These Should Not Happen

Catastrophe everywhere.
Nature is doing its best
adding misery and mishap.

Australia is burning
bush fire in all areas.
Many get killed.

Arctic blast
pounds heavy
temperature plummets.

U.S and Canada
encounter heavy
snow fall. Four killed

Hong Kong is ablaze
protests resound.
Two or more killed.

Impeachment Inquiry
of trump begins
in United States.

Winter is going
to be bleak. Calamities
on the anvil.

Cup Cakes’ Siblings

Know nothing about baking,
being a stickler to Indian
way of cooking. a vegetarian
from birth, aspiring to become
a vegan.

I have seen eggs, not
touched them. Amazed
to know about the eggs
participation in baking
cakes.

My granddaughter,
a thirteen year old
does many wonders.
Bakes delicious cakes,
cup cakes, iced cakes
lo ! I go astray.

I do not know
the different forms
and the names
attributed to them.
she does with an artistic
instinct, Colourful blend
with an aesthetic sense.

My grandchildren
tease me. laugh
at my naivety,
They enjoy fun
at my expense.
Wide eyed I view
her presentations,

A solace I experience,
is that they do not go beyond
eggs found in cakes. A tradition
they follow scrupulously.
Apparent, the custom
has got embedded
in the family.

One of A Common Breed

That one my cook
had been with me
for ten years,in an
impulse calls quit..
Taken by surprise.
I fail to seek
the reason.

He is temperamental
goes off his head.
turns quarrelsome
finds fault with
fellow workers.
Fights with them.
Screams and yells.

He is an expert cook
prepares dishes
in no time and for
any number of people
these being the reasons
I put up with his impudence.

He complains of leg pain
high blood pressure,
giddiness, what not
and what else
he could think off.
Sounds crazy.

I speak to the Doctor
fix an appointment
He refuses to meet him.
Packs his bags.Walks
out brusquely,
oblivious to two
decades treatment
of kindness and care.

An Unethical Relation

seen in India,
electrical power
fails with the advent
of rains,

Rains bring joy
at the same
turn a woe too soon
while electricity
drops with the event.

The longing for rains
in water starved regions
becomes a wish
not so loving with
the electrical failure.

Wishing for surplus
in the form of drinking
water,crops and prosperity.
encounters a nightmare
to sit through darkness.

A nightmare it will be
to spend the night
amidst mosquito menace,
perspiration resulting
in sleeplessness.

The flourish being
accompanied by
darkness. The normal life
gets dislocated.

Feel Let Down

a simple suggestion
takes an ugly turn.

Hearing about
the arrogance
of a subordinate,

I persuade
the one at the helm
to tame the shrew.

The chief
reprimands him
in a mild way.

The receiver
retorts aloud
with impudence.

Hell breaks out,
The chief loses
temper.

He stares at me
blames me for
the mishap.

The evening becomes
unpleasant. I being
cursed all the time.

A Little Of Me

Little things make me happy
that of a smile enlightens
one of a recognition enhances
holding the hands turns
a consolation being
expressions of love.

Might sound not meritorious
to many. They make me rejoice
and revel. Gathering those
moments seems to be an experience
whence I derive peace.

The voice of my dear ones
from afar enlivens. I wake up
from reverie . Listen in rapt attention
each decibel penetrates
through the soul. I am blessed.

Being one not governed by laws
and customs, I lead a life
of my own, distinct from
the regular. A kind of recluse
I might seem, Well, that is
what I am.

The Pseudo Nobel Laureate

Rena,boasts of her looks
feels she is fair as a Turkish,
thinks her nose is Roman,
likens herself to a Japanese.
sharp witted and skillful, missing
out on a crown

Equates herself to Bill Gates,
bequeaths her non existent revenue
to charity, believes to be a clone
of Mother Teresa, caring for the needy.
tries to befriend influential persons,
a competitor for Nobel prize,

Rena plays the game well
gets in when uncalled
get out as she deems
has very little learning,
she talks as though she is
the leader of the World.

Tryst With Rains

Caught in between
the traffic ,
I stand aghast.

Wholly drenched,
the clothes cling
to the body.

My feet trapped
in the slush remains
static.

I attempt to pull
them out, I slip
and slope.

Straighten myself
stand all through
unable to take a step.

Rains turn torrential
I go down slowly
inch by inch.

Sinking I cry
my voice fails
while I shiver.

I become numb
I am devastated
fatigue overwhelms.

My eyes close
I lose track
wake up

to familiar sounds
realize it is a dream
one of rains,
