A Transformation

Walking through the land
I bruise my hand and legs.
Thorns have grown fast.
They are bushy and tall.
Hard to negotiate I tread
with care.

It lies so for years
a century and half
the land remains untended.
With me for the past twenty years
I owe my apologies for having
neglected to improve.

A beautiful house stands there.
Picturesque with flowers
on the drive, fruit bearing trees
occupy the backyard. Neem and
coconut trees on either side
fascinate.

Ruggedness is no longer seen.
It is charm that enlivens.
The peacock family strides royal
while the squirrels have fun
playing around the garden.
Enlivening .

Incognito

I walk past the assembly
none recognize me.

Had I been away for long?
Away in mind and spirit.
I deliberate.

Sit in a place
till the more unknown.
I chuckle.

Unused to banter
and incessant chatter,
remain remote.

Farther and further
I move from the world
with a warm smile .

I return unnoticed.
Well, that is the way
I want to live hereafter.

Days

Days and nights
come and go.
Hours move fast
with engagements
pass slow when
not involved .

I see through
the years past.
Early days fly
with cheer and fun.
Adolescence sails
without a pause.

Duties weigh in the
adulthood at times
oppressing. Pain
and peace being
homogeneous make
the days crawl in old age.

Smile takes you
through the years
an adjustment here
an understanding there
lightens and lights
the days colourful.

The Old Is Back

Heaps of plastics
strewn across the ground
lie long. Filth and foul

The damage is done.
Very hard to retrieve
earth’s glory.

The old order enters.
Cloth bags, metal mugs
glass cups find the way in.

Earthern pots, banana leaves,
paper bags march past
with pride.

Soaps and shampoos,
tooth pastes perfumes,
makeups will not last.

Shikakai, besan flour
neem and charcoal,
sandal will be reinstated.

A renaissance should I call,
I am transported to my childhood.
Sense a gratification.

Pranams.

Muni

Vivid in memory
Muni pinches me
through the day,
while in Kindergarten.

She has sharp nails,
plunges them into the skin
till my arm turns red.
Excruciating.

My eyes glisten with tears.
Callous, shows
her incisive nails with pride.
Quieter I become.

I do not complain
nor warn her, out of fear.
Mysterious of her. Stops,
pinches no more,

Muni takes to medicine,
injects and dissects with precision
an extension of pinching.
I presume.

A leading surgeon in town-
Muni,- a celebrity. Practises
amidst fanfare and applause.
I admire her in silence.

Happy 2019!

It is a quiet end
no fanfare,
like the way
you go to sleep.

The days furl
into nights. Darkness
confides in brightness.
Nothing more.

A birth is an event
sure to bring joy.
The year to be born
be filled with splendour.

Grace to the bygone!
Cheers to the future
A breeze strikes
one of benevolence.

Happy 2019!

Medicines Are Not For Me

The mild winters in town
bring infections many.
Dominance of Dengue
and Swine flu create panic.

I sneeze, cough incessantly
run high temperature.
Fear of contracting the viral
makes me nervous.

Unable to place my head
on a single pillow,I keep two. three
lie on the bed almost
in an angle of 60 degrees.

Tossing in my bed I dream of
wild things. I am attacked by a bear,
a lion growls fierce,
finally a tiger tears me apart.

“That is the end”, I cry.
The family rushes to my bedside.
Curse me for refusing to take medicine.
They turn frustrated.

I drink warm water, munch
black pepper.Take apple cider
vinegar with honey. I nurse myself
and regain my composure.

Am back.

The Grand Wedding

Being a wedding of the richest

illuminations overwhelm

cuisines are multinational

entertainments abound

charter flights throng the skies

eyes look above

perhaps nothing to see on the ground

as gentlemen and ladies

clad in brocade and tussar silk

decked with diamonds

with feet an inch above

sail like a waft of air

laden with aroma

Hermes Birkin bags dangle

while Rolex watches tick

the bride and the groom

turn a speck in the ocean

where extravaganza gobbles.

solemnity.

That being the event of the year.

Few uncaught by the ostentation

Wish the couple austerity and wisdom

The Wedding of The Year

A wedding lights up the skies
illuminates the waters
enchants the air
causes the hills to gleam.

Grand and magnificent
I watch with awe
eyes remain stuck
while the jaws drop.

Eminence is the expression,
personalities, cuisines,
dance, drama and music
notch  day and night.

Glamour overwhelms.
It is a marriage
where two souls unite
with love and romance.

The extravaganza
demonstrates the power,
the wealth, the stature
and the clout the family enjoys.

Astounded the world looks
at them. The event
being the wedding of the year.
Long live the newly married!

Wish them austerity
as prosperity abounds.

Graceful She Is

It is going to happen.
Vinola cries with joy.
Expectations mount.
she runs, sails and flies
Imagination overwhelms.

Expectations enliven.
“Tomorrow I will know”,
she says to herself.
Dies to see dawn,
turns restless.

It is early morning
Vinola has a quick shower,
dresses up in her finest attire,
looks all grace. I watch her close.
My happiness knows no bounds.

She picks her bag. Notice
an unusual glitter in her eyes.
A hardworking child, Vinola
should taste success.
Pray she be rewarded.
