The Coconut Trees

The twenty-five coconut trees in my garden
have grown so tall looks as though they reach the sky
bear twenty to 30 coconuts every 40 days
a great joy to watch the harvest.

The kothanar (mason) as the harvester is addressed
climbs with perfection and style
he falters not in any way
reaches the top in no time.

He tucks the aruval (sickle) in his waist
cleans the web that surrounds coconut trees.
cuts the dried fronds that hamper growth
releases the tree from unwanted entanglements.

He knocks on the cluster of coconuts
finds out the appropriate ones
slashes the one which holds
the coconuts fall down in tens.

A fascination to watch
eloquent and awesome
my eyes stay fixed to the trees
while I count 1,2,3

Coconuts At Home.

The  coconuts at home

plucked from the palms at home

small and big in size

look like an entice

the green husk around

the twigs surround

fall they in a bulk

three or five in a sulk

the man atop the palm

climbs with ease and calmcoconut harvesting

knows the ones full of content

knocks them down with an intent

they fall making a noise

the tender ones of choice

brought down carefully

lest the water would flow awfully

the man chops the dry fronds

as they keep themselves in a bond

it is two in one all the way

coconuts and clearing the density  in ways

nice to see the coconut harvest

I would do so every time with zest.

Tender Coconut Water.

The sweet water from a nut

held in a closed shut

found on a tree top

a lanky tree that grows up

no shoots or branches sidewise

the fronds become broad edgewise

in between the branches grow the shoot

they flower out which seem like tiny roots

the flowers then turn into small nuts

become big and are called coconuts

the tender one holds a lot of water

it is tasty and refreshing as nectar

healthy and  a reviving drink

renews even those who sink

a natural drink quite inexpensive

a gift to mankind all conclusive.tender coconut.

The Coconut.

The coconuts from the garden

small they have become

gone without water be the reason

rains have deceived in all seasons

the nuts look dry and parched

 exceed in numbers though

starved they seem Coconuton the exterior

the inside looks great with  cheer

 butter like slippery substance

 lies there almost in most

 hold little water sweet

the tender sleeves are tasty

lovely to bite  with ease

 like to say like Keats

 all things small are beautiful
