The Lovely Moon.

The moon in the sky
shines steadfast
with a pleasant  smile.

I wish to touch her
knowing  full she is unreachable.

Her milky fluffy exteriors
look imposing and imperious.

Enticing she is.

Passing my fingers
over her smooth demeanour
while so in an imagination
provokes nothing promiscuous
instead, proposes a sobriety.

Her  luminosity is  brilliant,
not anyway, blinding
a blend of
brightness and  solemness
a graceful shine she extends.

I gaze at her.
Know not how long.
I stand still,
diffident to move.

The Four Chickens.

The four chickens,
coloured red, orange, green and yellow
are bought to delight young Meenu.

They are tiny and fragile,
beautiful in their colours,
trot one behind the other
in a retinue.

Meenu, a toddler, runs behind them,
she is amused.

Her mother turns tense
goes behind Meenu
watches her steps close
lest Meenu topples over the chickens.

The little girl eats her meals
without any fuss,
as she follows
the chicks.
Her mother is happy
as her task turns easy.

Meenu tries to catch the chickens
They slip from her hold
Meenu cries. Her loud cry
scares the chicks away.

She being the one,
who never gives up
tries again and again.
Once she catches them
she beams with pride
looks triumphant
portrays a smile
all too sweet.

Meenu enjoys the play
being one of a lively game.

Non-English Writers.

Non-English speakers
learn English with a diligence
It becomes a second language
to them.
Never it turns secondary.

They master the language.
Speak and write with proficiency,
even better than the natives.

Their style is
dubbed as unique,quaint,peculiar
by the natives.

The voice may be a little different
not utterly strange.

The English speaking world
does not acknowledge them.

Many good writers
go unrecognised.

It is unfortunate in a sense.

Non-English scribes
do not lose heart.

Do the good work
claim your reward.

Not The Mahabharata.

The Dharma, I know
differs from
the protagonist of Mahabharata ,
led his family
not, through the righteous path.

He and his wife Janvi
mince no travel
up and down they go
miss not any function, event,
and weddings.

The children left to themselves
lost track,  been encircled by bad company.
The eldest Mega consumed tablets
coerced her siblings Sneha and Mali
into the world of drugs

Mega, soon lost control.
Her level is beyond redemption.

Sneha, fortunately, has come out
with minimum hurt.
while Mali stays between the two
neither here nor there.

Dharma and Janvi
face humiliations
but, ignore them easily
while they head towards
unwanted journeys.

Mega, Dharma quips has deserted her family.
in truth, her husband has divorced her.

Sneha lives happily
with her in-laws and their families

Mali, as seen, is between two horns
caught between two wives,
one of his choice and the other of his parents.

Dharma lives as happily as ever
with Janvi at his heels.

The Paraphernalia

The leaf:
the green colour I espied
sheds its darkness turns pale.

The leaf
a while after I perceive looks changed
red sets in with a haunt.

The leaf
changes its colour
turns yellow in a stroke.

The paraphernalia as viewed
proposes a sequence: the growth,
the ripeness and the decay.

The transformation,
being a natural phenomenon,
presents itself in a colourful vestige.

Autumn, as it is known,
entertains.

The Fall, as it is called,
echoes with a vibration.

The Ship Of Life.

The ship sails
on the waters
braving the storm
fearing a wreck.

Sustains and survives
reaches the shore
people alight
ill at ease.

The life of us all
likened to a ship
a struggle all the way
onerous to play.

The Fairest Of All

Mirror, Mirror on the wall
Sheela strikes the mirror affably
The mirror had been there for ages
the corners have turned black.
It reflects with a perfection.
Age has not detracted her course.
On the contrary, she has turned sharp.
Excellent is her performance.
The new ones eye her with envy.

The mirror smiles wearily.
How many faces she has reflected?
She misses the count. Not one, but
too many have confronted her like Sheela.

The mirror looks vague at this juncture
but,sports interest as always
awaits the query very much familiar.

Sheela comes forward
asks the mirror
“Who is the fairest of all?.

The mirror pouts with a tease,
lovingly calls Sheela near,
tells her in a soft tone,
without a doubt,
“You are the fairest of all”.

Overjoyed Sheela thanks the mirror profusely.

The mirror smiles wryly.
Not one but hundreds have asked her
She had replied and will interact the same way.
Truly,you are,
“The fairest of all is you.”

The Whale And The Shark

The whale and the shark
swim in the ocean
one upturns the other
a survival of the fittest
as seen in any habitation
be it in the waters or terrain
a desire to outsmart
being predominant
leads one to a conflict
a salubrious environment
go totally missing.

The desire to outsmart
the will to beat one
either by the competition of skill
or contest of strength
harmonises not rather suffocates.

The rattle and the prattle
along with the ramble
in a scramble
delivers a devastation
where there is death, bloodshed
accompanied by material loss
along with a mental torture.

Ties That Bind.

Three hours – seems like minutes –
come to term, as an exhausted
mother and new-born child
rest on in a deep nap.

The lactation flow saturates
and the seeping milk wakes
Maitiri up to nurse. The half
asleep Veda seeks the nipple
to receive the nourishment
she needs from the suckling breast.

Invincible for the invisibility,
this cordate union encouraged by the Light,
continues unsevered after birth;
the undeniable joy shared
among atheists and believers,
as the miracle of life belies science.

Ramadan-Hari Raya.

Being the ninth month
 in the Islamic calendar
 the  Muslims around the world
 turn pious.
Fasting from dawn to dusk
taking no water and no food
 they pray intensely.
They refrain from smoking
 abstain from  spurious drinks,
talk, not ill of others,
restrain from hurting others
refrain from swearing and cursing .
Their mind is filled up with thoughts sober.
The rigorous  penance  teaches men of love.
 An optimistic outlook descends
Fasting  is a Godly prescription for abstinence.
A month of restrictions, as found
 cleanses the body and mind
a  self-imposed way to make one fit
 both mentally and physically.
The ancient practices have scientific connotations.
