Fallen Angel

Egypt is in great anguish,

As the revolution is in full swing,

Upheaval has taken its wings,

Against Mubarak  who is in a tight fix,

Thirty  long years of his reign,

Has caused a   rebellion,

Which  exhibits series of protests,

By the people  against his regime,

More so against his wish,

To anoint  his son as his successor.

Mubarak has been trapped unexpectedly

As  his  own army withdraws its support,.

His mentor the United States has deserted him,

As they always do in every crucial move,

Leaving him alone  to face the turbulence,

Which has led to dire consequences,

Of blood and death, massacre and killing,

Making the old man desperate and desolate

Pushing him to a state of defeat and shame,

Puncturing his grit and tenor,

Plotting a violent manipulation and  terrible scheming,

Against the eighty-four year old leader,

Who has fallen from  glory to misery,

And now , at last he is a “Fallen Angel”

Economy And Inflation -Growing Together

Article first published as Economy and Inflation – Growing Together on Blogcritics.

Growth is a healthy phenomenon. If growth gets stagnated, the world would be in turmoil.  Recently there has been an unprecedented growth in prices. Precious metals have reached a new peak. Oil saw a hike and retreated.  The price of land and buildings is high. Last but not least, prices of vegetables and cereals are getting out of the grip of the average man.

Inflation is worldwide, as recession is global. The International Monetary Fund’s food price index has risen by 29% in the last six months. The high inflation on primary articles is more on account of supply side constraints. Prices of most staples have nearly doubled, while productivity and yield have risen marginally.

India , which is emerging as an economic force to reckon with, is struggling to fight inflation. The Reserve Bank of India, as always, is fighting a lone battle. Retail price of wheat in Delhi has risen by 90%, while production increased by 16% and the yield went up by 4.5%. Sugar prices have doubled, onion prices have tripled, and pulses have more than doubled.Prices are stubbornly high. A fall in prices is not seen in the near future.

In India , it runs so,

a kilo of onions costs Rs 65 ($1.44)
a liter of petrol costs Rs 65 ($1.44)
a bottle of beer costs Rs 65 ($1.44)

India practises socialism. Do not the above quotes substantiate its proclamation?

As the Indian economy grows, more and more people are moving out of poverty and joining the teeming middle class. The population is becoming self reliant as there is shift towards a low dependency ratio.  Twenty years from now there will be a rise in the working age population from 1022 million to 7812 million. India will have more mouths to feed.

The chance of achieving a double digit growth looks dim as food inflation is taking its toll. To harness growth and development the government should focus on increasing agricultural production.

Widespread Corruption Undermining India’s Economic Gains

Article first published as Widespread Corruption Undermining India’s Economic  Gains on  Blogcritics

Business is for profit, but there are ethics and principles to be followed.

Doing business in India requires special skills, including a dubious mind and a strong, wicked heart. Ratan Tata, of Tata and sons, has had said that his ambition to get into the aviation business in 1996 was shattered by government bureaucracy. He admitted that he would have had to pay bribes of roughly 15 million Rs (or roughly $3 million). He did not want to do that, so he lost an opportunity. Well, that, in a nutshell, is Indian business.

Of late the business situation has deteriorated greatly, with more and more frauds being exposed. The Satyam computer fraud has reached $2.5 billion. The disgraced former chairman of the Indian outsourcing giant Ramalinga Raju cooked the books and embezzled millions to buy prime real estate in major cities. India hosted the Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi, which revealed a huge corruption scandal in the construction of stadiums, and money-laundering involving a UK firm.

A 2G spectrum financial scandal in the telecommunication and IT ministry under A. Raja is the largest case of political corruption in modern Indian history, amounting to $40 billion lost by the government of India from underpricing. The minister sold the telecom bandwidth on a first come first serve basis to a chosen few vested interests and grossly undervalued it; it should have been put under a transparent auction system.

A few days ago, the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested the CEO of Life Insurance Corporation and three senior executives of public sector banks on allegations of large kickbacks involving a loan scam and trading insider information on companies.

While India is trying to emerge as an economic superpower, these scams and scandals are tearing the ribs of the nation apart. Its reputation as an IT giant and its rising economy are taking a beating. Overseas entrepreneurs will have to think twice before they set foot on Indian soil

Early In The Morn.

A call early in the morn cracked  the complacency,

A voice of an  old friend broke the  equanimity,

Dispelling the cheer and joy  early in the  morn.

The  conversation   that transpired was disenchanting,

It  logged round an   insensible indecent probing,

Diffusing  briskness and activity  early in the morn.

The  friendly tone was   packed with artifice

The talk  surrounded on  a  preconceived  fix,

Destroying the placidity and sobriety  early in the  morn.

The enquiry was a mischievous query,

Curious to know of an unexpected misery,

Thwarting the ease and comfort  early in the morn.

Suppressing the  burning rage

By keeping  the talk in a nonchalant  range,

Meted  out  both a blow and a thrash   early in the morn.

Why do they engage in such scorn?

Might be it is a quality inborn,

Demoralising  the   demeanour early in the morn.

Like Brewing Tea

An aromatic fragrance spreads,

As the tea leaves brew ,

A symptomatic  anger  reads,

As the mind  boils.

The  bitterness lurks in the lips ,

As you sip,

The remorse sets  your mood,

As you brood,

The intake of tea rejuvenate,

The body

The  outburst of anger  destroys ,

The mind.

The body and mind clash,

As indignity  crash,

Enacting a demonstration,

Of a vociferous reaction,

Causing a  terrible collision,

Rendering a   serious  concentration,

Of conflict and controversy,

Ascertaining a destruction,

Of soul and spirit.

Brewing tea needs special skill,

Bubbling anger restricts the will.

Settling a macabre  turn to thoughts

The Guardian Angel

 While treading down the lane,

In a forbidden plane,

Tracked  the   terrible sights

In  blazing lights,

 That left an indelible scar.

The chaos was aghast,

With din and  blast,

The blood and   bodies dead,

Were  strewn  ahead,

Remnant of a massacre wicked.

The fright was choking,

As the tears came pouring,

The pain was intolerable,

As the heart sunk in  trouble,

Reflecting on the despair.

Unable to find a coherence,

Unfit to trace a sequence,

The mind wonders in a desolation,

Suppressing  the isolation,

A recollection of the indifference.

The  Guardian angel  enters

 Blesses the unpleasant  tenders,

Uttering  words of  grace

Preaching   a definite  grace,

Resonant of a  “Great Mass”

Mystery Shrouds.

There was no response to the knock,

The house was  silent and dark,

There was no   move   what so ever,

Enumerating a silence moreover.

Gazing through the window

Saw a  hovering shadow,

Moving stealthily below,

The thundering bellow.

Rains lashed the  roof,

Lightening gave a severe hoof,

There appeared to be a proof ,

Of activity  in  aloof.

The presence of  life was there,

No not why  it bear?

Such a mysterious  fare,

Locking up in a confounded spare.

Bits And Pieces.

News in bits and pieces is uninteresting

As we do not get the substantial,

Action in bits and pieces is  non performing,

As we do not acquire the potential

Calculation in bits and pieces is  not fulfilling,

As we do not count in sequential,

Idea in bits and pieces is devastating,

As we do not construe the vital

Charity in bits and pieces  is  unrewarding

As we do not implement the credential

Love in bits and pieces is unrequiting.

As we do not receive the essential,

Learning in bits and pieces is disillusioning,

As we do not assimilate the ideal.

Living in bits and pieces is infuriating,

As we do not  accumulate  the integral.

Inflation Hits India hard.

Article first published as Inflation Hits India Hard on Blogcritics.

Inflation is at its height in India.

A kilo of onions costs 50 rupees (that’s about $1.10 in a country where the average per capita annual income is under $450).

Raw onion is the poor man’s side dish in India, but the escalation in prices has left him with no alternative: his diet is now only rice. The government, soaked in scams and scandals, is not capable of curbing the soaring prices. The political opposition is stiff and vehement. The administration is paralysed.

Parliament was not able to hold its winter sessions. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is in a tight corner. His ally, the southern-based DMK, has taken him to the verge of resignation. The Supreme Court, the highest judicial authority of India, is looking into cases of misappropriation of funds. The Central Bureau of Investigations is engaged in probing ministers, officials, and their aides who participated in the scams. In recent months there has been essentially no governance.

The disruptions have led to discontent among the people. They yearn for a change. But the choices are limited. The BJP, which was in power a few years back, is also not free from aberrations. Its drawbacks force the people to think twice.

There is crisis in every state. Andhra Pradesh is facing the Telengana revolt. Tamilnadu is in the grip of maladministration. Karnataka is in trouble, with an unstable coalition government. West Bengal had a spate of shootings and bloodshed a month ago.

The inflationary trend, which ranges from 12-13%, has led the Reserve Bank of India to hike interest rates.

The average Indian is feeling desperate. To survive, he needs an iron will. But, as always, he must struggle to sustain himself. He knows no happiness

A Ravishing Splendour

The circle  of kith around me kills,

The fret around the circle hurts,

The feelings  revolving round the fret despairs,

The intensity doused in the feelings burns,

The froth emanating from  the intensity overwhelms,

The bubble  evolving from  the froth spills over,

The transparency  felt  in  the bubble snorts across,

The flame  seen   in the transparency  radiates,

The heat let out from the flame  scorches

The sensitivity of heat  scathes,

The numbness of the senses  destroys,

The pressure of the numbness  suffocates

The tolerance of pressure stifles,

The virtue of tolerance is blasphemous,

The ideal of virtue  nauseates

The sequence of ideals  disqualifies

The falter in the sequence  extracts,

The fall from the falter pains

The hurt from the fall   excruciates

Alas! What a ravishing splendour!
