Parenting.

Is  the word  parenting a new coinage?

Parenting  is  a process of promoting and supporting, the physical, emotional, social , intellectual development of a child from chid to adult hood.Is it then an employment? Is it an occupation? Is it a duty?Recently, it has become a course of study.Unassumingly,  I am reminded of a quote.

“Some people are born great, some have greatness thrusted on them, some achieve greatness”

My reference of this quote  to parenting , may appear irrelevant. But why such a recollection buzzed my mind ,when I thought of the topic? I know not.

Parenting is an impregnate word ,carrying with it fine feelings yet  having deviating principles.,intrinsic values yet promoting discreet functions,  great responsibilities yet propounding varied faith.

Parenting is a duty of every biological parent.Begetting a chid is a wonderful experience. Raising a child is an absorbing strain, which will have both a pleasurable elation and a discouraging  depression. Coping with the tedious analogies ,which besiege the mental balance, which exhaust the physical equilibrium, which render a thorough obsession,is a difficult operation.

Business can be learnt. Right decisions or wrong moves affect  financial gains. The congeniality  of the market, the upward and the downward trend , the fluctuations, can be mastered by applying the mind on the effective  starts, analysing the data, and working accordingly. On the contrary ,parenting is a subject which needs patience, timely interventions, sharp wit, concealing certain dilutions, revealing certain concentrations.

An extrovert parenting , declares an outward show of affection . showering profuse kisses, praising the child sky high, giving whatever is desired, on one side. On the other, behaving savagely,  scolding inhumanely,  delivering beatings ,  condemning outrageously , retards the germination..It is like a plant shooting up, and then drooping. Ultimately there is no growth.

An introvert parenting, discloses nothing. There is no appreciation, no fault-finding, a dumb response to whatever situation, whether it be pleasant or deplorable. It is similar to a plant growing on own accord. If it sustains , it is because of nobody’s effort.. If it dies, again it is not due to anybody’s fault. There is a minimal chance of growth.

Now , how nurture  a child? This question focuses on parenting. Parenting can be defined in short as care for a child. A child is like a rose. The queen of flowers has soft petals, and thorns . The softer side has to be treated with diligence. A slight rough act or a hurried move will thwart the beauty. Once ,deranged  the  is lost, rather the purpose is dead. The prickly part of the flower, is a warning ,which forebades any fretted onslaughts. If a slight inattentive push is hovered, then there is a gush of red blood with tears innumerable.

So ,a child is like a rose .Have a benign look, and a cryptic watch at the same time. Speak in a kindly note, and maintain discipline simultaneously. Provide best sources and deprive worst  connections.Work coherently with the child. refrain from indulging in dispersive distractions, like smoking, drinking, gambling, and behaving atrociously. The young mind  is an open register. It records unobtrusively that which happens around, that which is discussed in depth.

As the child grows, a slow withdrawal  should be enforced by the parents. As a breast-fed child is weaned in stages, the parental  monitoring should be minimised  gradually. After the  child crosses its teens, the supervision could be withheld. This lesson can be learnt from our co habitants-animals. They accomplish the task perfectly. The adult,  is now free to get into the world. Such an adult , nourished with careful parenting is sure to succeed  .

Parenting is an art.Mastering it is a craft. Excelling in it is an award.

Going Grey

I woke up in the morning and unusually sat before my dressing table.I saw a few streaks of gray hair . Alas! I am old . I am getting grey hair I shouted. , “Going grey”.”Going grey”My youngest son, who had come down, rushed into my bedroom, perplexed.”Ma. what is wrong? Why are you yelling “Going grey,Going grey “,when the whole world is agog with “Going Green”. I showed him my discovery. He almost snapped into two ,as he roared in loud laughter. I got bewildered. Why is he behaving so quixotically?. Yesterday night, he was alright!!

A few minutes after, he asked me “Ma , How old are you?”.I warned him not to ask such embarrassing questions hereafter. He chided me . Putting his arm around me, he said “Ma, I know that you are in mid fifties.Greying is part of life. You are really fortunate to get grey hair at this age. Do not get fidgety”. I  became restless.I was sad.. The first time in my life I have seen grey or silvery streaks. Overnight , I have become old.

My little one, was aghast to see me so much shaken. He said “Ma you were brave when things went against you , most of your prime life. Now ,for this natural transformation , you get so panicky. I am not seeing your original self. You look so pale and unkempt. Do your hair soon. Come down, as normally   you would. This greying has added wisdom to your self.” So saying , he left my room.

I stared at my mirror. The greyish streak was  found in a very few areas. It was noticeable when you take a close look.I bridled my new look hair , thus tempering my anger and horror. I climbed down, with little uneasiness, that some one would point out my change. No one paid attention to my head. I took my morning papers . I forgot the silvery hair for full hour. Then gradually I lost myself in my work schedule.I forgot  the aging process .

My little one ,came to my office, winked at me. ‘Ma , You are Going grey, Going grey”. I looked up  from  my papers, gave him a smile. “Do not kid me ,now sweetie”We will have nice fun later in the evening. He grinned and said “Now , You  are ,what you were, solemn and gentle, with the age by your side.

The Opportune Moment.

An outstanding in the bank was cleared. The bank has to return the documents. But it is keeping the valuable papers in custody for no reason whatsoever. The client approached the Manager , who said he was waiting for an “opportune moment” to retrieve the evidences from the Head office.

A case was pending in the High court for a long time. The affected was upset. He asked his lawyer to speed up the matter,as he was fed up with the affair. His advocate advised him to be patient, as he was on a look out for an “opportune moment”.

A marriage alliance came into the forefront.. The bride is pretty ,well educated. The groom is very handsome, qualified, and in a top position. The stage is  set,is the general feeling. But it is postponed ,for the advent of the “opportune moment”.

Decisions  are controlled by favourable time.

Actions are supervised by  propitious hour.

Efforts are inspected by  auspicious period.

Such governance deprives true merit.

Such schedules usurp rationality.

Such programmes lack relevance.

Obama Humbled.

Obama is humbled to receive Nobel Prize for Peace. This was the first reaction Of Obama to the news.

He being humbled  for what. Does he feel that he is not a fit recepient?Does he feel small amongst great achievers?Does he gets panicky, as to how he will stand up to the claim?

So many queries rush up. The usage of the verb “humbled”is impregnant with numerous interpretations.

As Obama is  humbled, we are muffled .

Gazing

Gazing at the sky,

Little stars twinkling,

Blue clouds passing,

A wonderful sight.

Gazing at the Television,

Cine stars rowing,

Red alerts flashing,

A dubious sight,

Gazing at the computer,

Message stars blinking,

colourless virus hacking,

A tedious sight.

Dame Luck Smiles On Obama

Obama assumed office of the President of U.S in January 2009.

He has been awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in October 2009.

A very quick recognition, that brings in cheers and happiness, awe and surprise ,at the same time.

He has yet to withdraw troops rom Afghanistan. He is in two minds , whether to send more troops or call them back.He is indecisive.

He has to decipher  a way out to break through Iran’s Nuclear Programme. The middle east unrest is prolonging .He is striving to quell down the disturbance.Yet he has been honoured by the Nobel Committee. It appears ironical

His speech in Prague about Nuclear disarmament is inspiring . He has not achieved anything promising, but is talking everything that possibly assures promise. He has captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for the future ,goes the citation. Well , he has won the award for his eloquence not for his performance. While standing up for the ovation, he would have definitely a sense of pride,  a feeling of greatness, and  an amazing experience of reverberation .At the same time, if his mind gives him a tick to the notation that he is not fully qualified for this endowment ,and if he responds to it in a wink therein lies  his greatness.. He is the Man. He has a bigger responsibility of living up to the clattering hope of the Oslo committee’s decision.Clattering  because they have pushed him to the end with a big noise. A misstep, or a slip would let him down    .

Lucky Obama, be careful.

Tamilnadu Or Karunanidhinadu

The state of Tamilnadu, down south of India, is known for its extreme way of thinking. It was in the hold of film personalities for quiet some time. It was in the grip of Tamil lovers for some more time. It has been tossed up by caste freaks. Now ,it is at the disposal of a single family, that of Karunanidhi.

The eighty-six year old chief Minister is ruling the state from a wheel chair. His retinue comprises a band of doctors, a group of his family, either  of his wife Dhayulu, or of his wife Rajathi, and  a pack off his party cadres. The channels ,telecast  his inspection of the site where the new secretariat is built. His van enters the area. Tha door is opened. His daughter Kanimozhi, steps out. Finally the hydraulic chair in which Karunidhi  is seated ,is brought to the fore. Sitting in the chair , Karunanidhi, sees the construction. The site  engineers, spreads out the plan , explains the lay out,and structural design. Karunanidhi nods. Then ,the daughter gets in. The van goes out o the venue.

The physical discomfort o the Chief Minister is apparent. His mind, people say is alert. It May be, but in practicality a person in the wrong side of eighties is prone to  forgetfulness, is inclined to break down in mental agility. Karunanidhi is no exception.

His  son Stalin is the Deputy chief Minister. His  other  son ,Tom boy, Alagiri ,is the minister o chemicals and fertilisers in the centre. His  daughter Kanimozhi is a o Parliament. His nephew Dayanidhi Maran , is central minister of Textiles. His another nephew, is a T>V Baron, holding sway over Sun T.V.

Where can you find such a representation of a family in a government?Even the emperors and Kings had a very minimal strength from the family in the governance.THe Karunanidhi clan virtually own the state. They not only rule ,but also possess vast lands in the major cities of Tamilnadu.

Long live Karunanidhi! Long live his progeny! God save them!

Transparent Transparencies

Water in a glass is a transparent  medium.A glass window ,I mean ,a transparent glass reveals what is inside.A refracted medium allows light to pass through ,but not images.A plain glass container exposes the substance it holds, whether it be liquid or solid  in an exact vicissitude.

This introduction  is for the media, which has a great responsibility in reporting the happenings, the episodes, political developments, scientific  experiments, technological exercises, business transactions, stock market announcements, companies annual returns , and moves. An unbiased   write up ,unmixed with fiction, untouched by distractions, unblended by dupes , unveiled by fantasy, is the need of the hour. It is not only a need, but a compelling character of excellent journalism.

The intermingling of facts and figures, the entwining of allegory and metaphors, the merging of the possible and the impossible, and the narration of euphoria and dysporia are found in literature. Journalism, is an illustration, rather a craft , that conveys news, in a descriptive  style and medium  through  wide spectrum of  media. It is governed by ethical guiding principles rather than rigid rules.

Dishonesty, plagiarism, fabrication and accepting bribe are treasons that are to be eschewed by journalists.

Media has had an abundant progress in the last decade. It has branched manifold.Online  and offline reporting, visual and broadcasting ,text and pictures , have made a gregarious progression .

Journalism is the next generation employment portal.

Heavy Luggage.

The executives of top notch companies are entitled to excessive pay and generous freebies.. The economy is bleeding . The recession is over taking normalcy. But the top brass go high in private jets to the capital to get alms for their sustenance.

The begging bowl and the jet  show an ironical depiction, a satirical subtlety, and a deranged euphoria. The retrograding economy compels an austerity. The precedent should emanate from the top officer. Then , an ideal, subjugated tempo would prevail over the mid level and junior cadres.A voluntary surrender of a percentage of salary and politely avoiding perquisites by the Chairman and Chief executives  would go a long way in promoting healthy  salubirious condescension to the company which supports them. This conduciveness that looks up in the small nucleus will fetch a powerful acrimony , by alleviating the otherwise obscene industrial perspective.

To forego a little  benefit ,we need a lot of determination ,a full dare out to retrieve the soiled grace, an entire resolution to pull out the economy from the woods. But such a realisation is hard to decipher among the executives. They bargain for even more perquisites, and claim a hike in salary to befit the strain they undergo in conducting the business. If a willing submission is difficult , then the government should appoint regulators to monitor the “luggage”,that is disbursed, and designate inspection to deduce the bonus ,free air tickets, holiday packages and other allowances that are recorded, and  compensations that are not entered.

Austere ,sober , serene movements will certainly push in a quick recovery and germinate a soft blend of prosperity and magnificence.
