A Birthday Wish
It is the little one’s birthday
a day to remember
joyful for the big children
great for the parents
especially to the mother
the little one would find
no difference whatsoever
yet gets elated mightily
when everyone sing
the Birthday song.
chimes with them
“Happy Birthday to you”
knowing not the meaning
plays with his friends
that too for a while
goes back with his pet toy
being a car in his case
revels pushing it far and near
more or less he is lost
being in his own world
a place where innocence prevails
where imagination overwhelms
away from the mundane in a way
into a world of fantasy and fascination
Happy Birthday to you my little grandson.
Scaling down is an issue
be it in wealth or weight
a decrease in wealth
provokes a jeer and a tear.
a diminish in weight
calls for a cheer at times
notifies a fear most times
both happen unexpectedly
both occur now and then
both are not in our hands
but prudence helps to maintain
a healthy balance of both
be careful and work towards an equanimity.
A vendor old
walks around bold
sells bananas different
being ras thali
, poovan,
malaipalam and sevvalai
shouts at the top of his voice
manages to walk with an unknown joy
the load on his head loathsome
has a few customers on wholesome
sells the fruits for a meagre gain
makes his living without much pain
wishes not to trouble his children at all
he would pass unnoticed in all
none would highlight his plight
nor bring to notice his sincerity
or talk about his intention to work
cause he is a poor man at work
Woke up in the morning
was up in the bed for a moment
slid back on the bed
dozed off for the rest of the morning
got up again in the early afternoon
stayed in the bed for a second
slid back on the bed
slept off the whole afternoon
evening came in a few hours
the sun was settling down
woke up again for the third time
sat up in the bed for a moment
slid back once more on the bed
was fast asleep the rest of the evening
hurriedly jumped out of the bed
ran to have a quick shower
dressed up and ran to the door
jogged down the aisle
drove the car in full speed
entered my office in a wink
I am working night this week.
