A Curse and After

A curse is in the family
for four generations they say
that of a woman from a distant land
who died a few hundred years ago
know not it is natural,murder
or a suicide anything is possible.

A man who is well versed in craft
and who is a sooth sayer too
does pujas in the place where the woman died
tells them if they retain the land
the family would suffer misery
so the land has to be alienated.

it is a surprise to all
has no mishap has befallen the family
except deaths due to old age
others being simply natural
why this decision to sell
has gained importance?

The need of money is the reason
for that they attribute reasons
that of beyond imagination
a support to their cause
a clever ploy to get the money
have they resorted to such evil ways.

Dashing All Norms

A call from my friend
who is a very close to me
asking for a help
she never opts at any time
this being the first request
took me by surprise.

It was not for her that too
a help for a relative of hers
went out of my way to fulfill
did so with great effort
she expressed her gratitude
with lovely words .

The joy did not last long
as her relative made a daring move
dashing all accepted norms
throwing out in a hurry
that which could have blossomed
but withered and got spoilt.

Busy the Man is

In a meeting they say
whenever I call
comes a tone busy
day in and day out
it is the same
with appointments all through.

How could he be so?
always occupied
work does he really
or just puts up a face
I wonder
remain awe-struck
all through my days.

I had been active in my days
still active in my retirement
never once I had been so busy
meeting and talking
the more I did
had a few talks and fewer executions
that took not much of my time.

I had been different in a way
mostly had been relaxed
not serious of my pursuits
took every issue lightly
whether it is correct
I really do not know
but still I am so.

Smile is a Tool

Smiling she walks
works with dedication
cares not about
those who talk ill.

Has a child of two
and a husband so irresponsible
half drunk and without work
who beats her every day.

To her son she is kind
kind to her husband even more
never speaks against him
rubs aside his cruelty.

To every spanking of his
she throws a smile
at times she mumbles
when he goes astray.

Perplexed to see her behave so
most of us around her
try to help her out
which she politely refuses.

Her attitude seems most astonishing
perhaps it is an answer silent
smiling she defeats her opponents
I knew not so long about this tool.

Waterless

Waterless the world has become
with almost no rains for three months
around the equator and tropics
the rivers have dried up
the water sources are empty
the man, the animals and birds
appear thirsty all through
the plants and trees look paltry
withered and dry with no green leaves
a sight horrible to see
a season terrible to experience.

To Remain Silent.

Writing is not everybody’s forte
talking is neither every one’s strength
silence is not all in common
there is a skill for each
going by the word in write
accompanied by the eloquence
followed by the quietness.

All cannot aspire to become a writer
nor could they be an orator
but they could at least be a spectator
which in a specific sense
kindles a great response and appreciation
as unlimited talk turns offensive
the monotonous dialogue converts itself to a boredom..

Amusing to note silence is a technique
many forget that they have two ears
that tell us to listen more
talk less and be watchful
which in turn becomes a difficulty
unnecessary talk leads to chaos
that disrupts peace and tranquillity

The Missed Rhythm

The rituals and procedures
that go about in a marriage
sends an awe and at times frightening
where there is no importance to that is apparent
where there is a claim for the unseen or abstract

The faith in astrology is great in India
star and planets govern with authority
the other rally behind this cohesiveness
many alliance get detained by the expertise
which they call a science of great strength.

Astrology does command a respect
that depends on the person who practises
as many unlearned try to read the lines
that sound not exact but misleading
breaking many prospects in weddings.

Each event has to take place in appropriate time
when the stars and tithis are favourable
when the horai and kuligai lie specifies
while rahu kala and emakandam are not found
the good bodings go off in a spree.

India is ancient and traditional
still hangs on to the age-old customs
those that were seen in broad perceptions earlier
have narrowed done to strict forfeitures
that permeate all over with a movement not forward.

April Fool

Once again the All Fool’s Day
has chimed in with a sing
fool each other for the sake
an enjoyment to the best’
a rejoice in the quest
the taunt and haunt
go together on this day
where every one or other
call it for a play
not rally meaning what they say
but a play of tricks on friends
just to revive the cherish and nature
that lightens up the day with a brightness
and with a relaxation too.
