Amavasya Tharpanam

The New Moon Day
has a special note
where dead are remembered.

It is a ritual
which recalls the ancestors
to seek their blessing

It is being followed
with a short recitation
invoking the Almighty.

The brahmin conducts the puja
he calls out the names of the ancestors
a lineage diligently recalled.

The names of sacred rivers are pronounced
while raw rice and sesame are offered
water being sprinkled liberally on them.

The amavasya or New Moon Day
is held with such high esteem
a belief that is age-old

The brahmin is paid for the ritual
which every Hindu feels
goes to their forefathers

It is a practice in India
more or less similar to the activity
of the Thanks giving Day

The flower I like
the pattern I love
the food I relish
the house I live
the children I begot
the spouse I care
all form concentric circles
one not clashing or hitting
each one demanding in a way ,
Well, the heydays are over
now going in circles all the way
with a relaxation and ease
that could be for another decade
with that comes the end to all likes
as curtains gradually descends to a closure.

The Hot Afternoon

It is a hot afternoon
the place is like an oven
washed clothes dry up in a second
totally humid and intolerable.

The birds try to chirp
refuse to chat and fly
as they cuddle in their nest
unable to see the bright sun.

The people dare not venture out
apprehensive of the sun stroke
refrain in their homes
afraid to face the incorrigible dazzle..

The sun unmindful of its power
shines with a bewildering excess
tarnish the grass and the skin
with equal strength in a fiery glow.

The Woman

It is a tedium
a strain, a despair
to be born a female

The woman faces restrictions
impossible to perform freely
has to stay at the back.

A woman if she is enterprising
would be a butt of anger
turns out to be a stock contemptuous

The men around try to sneak
while her husband scoffs at her
becomes a target of derision.

With contempt she lives her life
her efficiency never acknowledged
she becomes a secondary citizen.

The domination of man is relevant
everywhere be it in east and west
dwarfs the growth of the fair sex.

This is the reality women encounter
in all walks of life
cope up with frustration with stoicism.

I, a Crook.

Gone are the days
when there was a cheer
that spread all over
not restricting to one place
but throughout in a run over
a lovely diaspora it was
with less gadgets to assist
more of physical work on the run
with cooking many dishes
cutting and grinding with passion
walking down the lane to the shop there
to buy newspapers and grocery
meeting people across the way
greeting them and picking up friendship
all done with no strain whatsoever
that intimacy has been switched off greatly
living on high raised apartments
with the new introduction of villaments
the house being large enough to be a villa
but still does not have a square foot of land
where the features looks high and expensive
display a trend ostentation beyond my comprehension
the possibility to live in a house encompassed by glasses
sends a feel that people are watching you from far and near
used to closeted living in traditional houses on a big piece of land
with the wooden windows and doors all firm and strong
and a courtyard at the back with space to hang about
thos proposition new seems odd and and out of my focus
Do I look like an old fashioned crook ?

Wagging The Tail

Wagging the tail the dog entered
sat cuddled near the chair
looked around the living area
could find none of his companions
they be his master and his wife
along with their beautiful child
all showered their love on him
the master was strict and affable
while his wife kind and caring
that of their child mischievous and playful
they made a team great and inspiring
a perfect home for the cannibal
which never missed a single jaunt on the course
whether it be a ride across the country
or be a walk round the park
the dog occupied the vital seat in the car
beside the kid altogether making a happy band.

Off the Mark

Small issues become big
mole hills turn into mountains
fatigue causes illness
a sense of sensibility.

It is the thought that does
a harm or a caress
an injury or a smother
a call for riddance or an involvement.

The perception in life
differs from person to person
one sails in the lighter sense
the other flies with a burden.

The concern expresses importance
the actual experience is not a matter
the way one approaches the issue
marks the difference in the outcome

A take it easy attitude
goes a long stretch undisturbed
a worried frantic move
renders a strangulation .

Off the mark with wholeheartedness
get set and go clothed by an inspiration
propels a jolly go ride with great speed
be it in a slope steep or tract plain.

Security is mortal’s chief enemy.
It sounds provocative.
It is almost reactive.

Security is safety all the more.
With protection and watch in the surround
an invincibility builds all around.

The impenetrability is so intense
that the strength proposes no vulnerability
but shows a staunch reliability.

This is found in the apparent state
The overtures of safety do expose
loopholes that create an impose.

The sense of being safe and still
has a drawback very definite
with cross overs infinite.

The slight relaxation in the circuit
gives way to the open up
where riddles rush in a top up.

The extraordinary has its own defaults
where the extreme brings a trouble
that would end up in a bubble.

The confidence one begets
sometimes is beguiling
which results in a danger unforeseen.

Into the elections the subcontinent
is in a dilemma of the predicament
the incumbency not very positive
the opposition in pieces also not very positive
there hangs a pendulum oscillating slowly
the reviews give a picture each time differently
confusing the electorate and the parties
one fears the other in all the entities
a piquant situation that arises during elections alone
the rest of the days sub continent is in a forlorn
where there would be no action whatsoever
each leader filling his coffers ever
not disturbed of the country’s plight
the poor becoming poorer in the light
sway them over with the reliability on free throws
restrict them from their try to seek permanent relief in the go
that be the attitude of the politicians in general
never do they reform the nation with an act of genial.
