The Lily of The Desert.

The wild plant
found in the tropics
unkempt and rugged
stood like an old man
within the beds of exotic roses,
jasmine and sunflowers.

An eyesore
the succulent grew in all humility.
When I attempted to uproot it
Swedha, my friend,
a lover of plants
bids me to leave it be.

Enumerating on its magical uses
she opened my eyes to its intrinsic value.
“Value is superior to beauty” quoth Swedha
Aloe vera, is a protective herb,
keeps evil influences out of the home
and prevents accidents.

As for the medicinal uses,
Swedha continued with enthusiasm
it is a soothing remedy for burns,
and a skin Rejuvenator. Its juice is a
natural cleanser, an antioxidant
relieves stomach cramps.

I listened to her with rapt attention.
Swedha! I cried in appreciation.
She quietened me and summed up saying,
Aloe vera is a plant of Immortality.
Ancient civilisations revered it as a
sacred, mystical and spiritual plant.

Swedha’s lecture was so engaging.
I travelled into the realms of spirituality
dived into the land of Kemet.
I visualised Cleopatra applying Aloe vera
on her brown skin to enhance her natural beauty.

I had neglected this plant all this while.
if only I had made use of it,
I would have remained young and graceful.
Well, that is not to be.

A Young lad Questions .

young boyWhere is the world heading to?
a question asked not by an adult
nor by a ripe old man
coming from a ten-year old boy
put me in a wild deliberation.

At ten, I used to play and read
bothered about the chocolates and ice creams
never thought how I could afford
as the revenue was away from my purview
sleeping well with no thoughts of anything.

The young lad presumably has knowledge of the events
the Ukraine affair and the Malaysian vanishing flight in recent
following all the episodes that happen with interest
perhaps feeling sad over the issues that bring destruction
the change amongst young needs both encouragement and discouragement as well.

Stages Of Friendship

I had a score of friends when I was small.
We played the whole day without a fall.
We played hide and seek in the hall.
We hid behind the big wall
Then came out in a crawl.

I had ten friends when I was an adolescent.
The memory of those days is still nascent.
We shared our feelings ebullient.
We enriched ourselves with references brilliant.
The aroma of that kinshiphide and seek is effervescent.

As I age my friendship narrows down.
My circle is almost five down.
Mostly I languish alone.
Now I propose a softened tone.
The days of noise are no more known.

The Old Order Changeth

old orderGiving way to new things in a fest.
Giving chance to young at the best.
Giving place to new order in a test
So goes the world in a flow
as change brings in a result slow.

Leaving the old things behind.
Leaving the aged in the hind.
Leaving the old order away from the bind.
So goes the world in a flow
as old takes the back row.

Taking up enthusiasm as a cue.
Taking over by youth is true.
Taking in fresh air from the blue.
So goes the world in a flow
as novelty assumes a glow.

Brushing aside the experience as a yardstick.
Brushing aside the oldies as one with a walking stick.
Brushing aside the tested ideals like a prick.
So goes the world in a flow
as wisdom retreats with a bow.

I Wonder.

I wonder,

How life goes about all day?

Invigorating a few most times,

Intimidating most  at  times,

Provoking a struggle all times,

I wonder,

I keep on wondering,

I would wonder till I die.

Well, Death is another wonder,

Snatching  the young at times,

Leaving the old many times,

Saddening all, all the times,

I wonder,

I keep on wondering,

I would wonder till I die.
